Except for Palawan, there is no area in the country that is safe from earthquakes. We are a loser in the geographical sweepstakes. We are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, which stretches from the San Andreas Fault to our ruptures in Asia.
In addition to sitting on a movement-prone fault, we are part of a typhoon belt. Many times, we wish we had taken possession of Kota Kinabalu—the land beneath the winds—but that is too late in the day.
